Rockford is ranked the fourth most obese metro area in the United States, according to a press release, and the American Cancer Society and YMCA of Rock River Valley are taking action to fight the problem. The Illinois Division of the American Cancer Society awarded the YMCA a $10,150 youth obesity prevention community grant this month. The grant will be used to promote healthy nutrition and physical activity at 40 of the after school and summer programs that are run by the YMCA of the Rock River Valley. The equipment will remain with the organizations so that they can continued to be used for the after-school and summer programs. Read Childhood Obesity
